Some striking developments in Iraq - Will these be favorable for the US? Only time will reveal. Nevertheless, there is some excitement for the fatigued US army, as some tribal insurgents have now decided to fight alongside US army against the al-Qaeda.
The propitious developments one after the other seem to favor US forces and perhaps giving it the base to live in Iraq, but for how long? By arming Sunni Iraqis against al-Qaeda, US can have some favorable results at present to rejoice with but does US know whether it’s guns to tribes or spades and shoves to dig their grave with?
Obviously, the tactics are beneficial to eradicate al-Qaeda, however dangerous it may be. The tactics will help to annihilate al-Qaeda, no doubt, but the success against militants will be marred by rising ethnic and sectarian tensions among the Shias, Sunnis, and Kurds.
Now the question is - is US ready to face aftermath? As of now, Sunnis are waging the war to get rid of al-Qaeda which latter can change to get rid of US (possibilities can’t be overruled) but there will be difference, of course - because this time it’ll be with better arms and tactics.
