Unable to stop the ongoing bloodshed in Iraq, the beleaguered US forces there, are thinking out of box to bolster support for themselves. With the aim of increasing support for itself and pit Iraqi tribes against the Al-Qaeda supported belligerency, the US military has decided to use its money power along side the muscle power.

Under a shrewdly devised plan, the US is offering financial aid and other support to tribes and their leaders to ensure their cooperation in containing increasing fighting in Iraq. The offer aimed at wining the faith of Arabic tribes in Anber region and central Iraq who till now are disenchanted with American supported Iraqi administration for it predilection towards Shia majority and the Kurds.

The US appointed middlemen are in touch with these tribal leaders to induce them to join Iraq’s army and police forces. Even the tribes throughout Iraq look pre-disposed to stand up against violence unleashed by the insurgents in lieu for political share and economic assistance. The highest US officials are already considering options like awarding cash payments, security contracts or medical assistance to bolster tribal opposition in clashed with Al-Qaeda militants.

The militants in Iraq are presumed to be drawing strength from the Sunni tribes once loyal to the late dictator Saddam Hussein. The Shia dominated Malliki Government of Iraq is often blamed to be dawdling in drawing Sunnis to national mainstream. Even the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki himself expresses the concern that such policy of the US may create militias outside the realm of government.

However, the US military has decided to accelerate the process of bringing tribes into security forces by ignoring some usual requirements. It will help the Americans to cut short their security burden in Iraq and trounce the militancy support base among the Sunnis. But, the scholars are dismayed at the prospect of full scale civil war between the people of Iraq incase the tribes turn on each other as seen in the past.Sectarian and tribal antagonism rules in Iraq and the Americans need to be cautious in each step of their policy directive.
