Pressure on the Iraqi government is apparently increasing as more than 100 people have already died in the past 24 hours. Making the situation further worse a deputy health minister has been kidnapped leaving Baghdad absolutely clue less about the whereabouts of the kidnapped minister. At present neither Iraqi government nor the allied forces are in a situation to handle the situation effectively and bringing the ongoing sectarian strife to a dead end.

In the prevailing situation it seems help of U.S. adversaries such as Iran and Syria could be crucial as they can be instrumental to bring the sectarian strife to a halt. Otherwise, no quick-fix solution is in sight at the moment. Efforts are being made by the U.S. allies to pressurize U.S. to change the direction of the policies in respect with Iraq and to approach Syria and Iran to help in bringing stability in the region.

However, the recent visit Syrian foreign minister to Baghdad for the very first time is certainly a good signal. Iran and Syria both are very influential in certain sectarian faction in Iran and they can help to elevate the deteriorating situation in Iraq. In fact, after ousting Saddam Hussein and having no powerful government in Baghdad and ineffectiveness of allied forces in deep area upset the balance among Shiite, Sunni and Kurds.

However it is not a fact that these factions were living in harmony before. There were tensions prevailing among these sects with each other. Despite of the fact, there was a uneasy calmness among them that is erupting now.
