Al-Maliki made futile efforts to visit Saudi Arabia:

Al-Maliki’s efforts to visit Saudi Arabia with the U.S. mediation, proved fruitless as authorities in Riyad refused to entertain Al-Maliki’s request because King Abdullah’s schedule is full and no further visits can be organized in the near future.

Riyad Wants to Isolate Al-Maliki in Arab

Riyad, perhaps, wants to isolate the Iraqi prime minister in the Arab community for his pessimistic attitude with some groups in Iraq, and partial towards the other and particularly for his role in accentuating the Iranian influence in Iraq.

Saudi Arabia, a Sunni dominated country, is concerned particularly about the Iranian influence and Sunni community who are estranged in Iraq and are facing life threats from the terrorists trained and smuggled to Iraq from Iran.
