A newly born Lebanese boy has been named Ra’ad, the long-range missile that Hezbollah is firing at Haifa. In fact, the mother of the boy wanted to honor the Shiite group’s showdown with Israel. May be it is a reflection of a normal citizen of Lebanon but it somehow compels to think that at present Arab world seems to be leaderless as there is no leader who can enjoy a larger than life image among Arab population. It is open to speculation that whether this is the reason why people started naming their babies after technology.
Of course, in recent times there were only few courageous leaders in the Middle East region. Barring a few such as Yasser Arafat and Saddam Hussein along with a few other, no leaders has the courage to say ‘no’ to U.S.
Coming back to Ra’ad, it is shocking revelation for Israel as it failed to anticipate, or its intelligence failure, that Hezbollah could have long-range missiles. It helped Hezbollah to penetrate deep into Israel. The missile proved destructive, as it has reportedly destroyed a few industrial installations as well.
However, it is being reported that these missiles are Russian made. If the reports are true, it indicates towards a different story. Russia in the defense deals with Iran supplies long rage missiles and Tehran’s proximity to Hezbollah signals towards obvious conclusion.
The another discomforting failure of Israeli intelligence came to light when it lost its one of the most advanced missile boats when an Iranian anti ship missile hit the target off the coast of Beirut. Moreover, the Israel was totally unaware of the existence of anti-ship missile in the Hezbollah arsenal.
However, in an another interesting development Israel seems to be reluctantly agreed to meet United Nation’s Middle East negotiator Terje Larsen. However, Israel has been out and out reluctant to enter high-level talks sans talks at Camp David. This decision of Israel has shocked many and it seems that the international community along with Europe trying their level best to create an environment for negotiation.
