The clergy guided and heavily religious flavored administration of Islamic Republic of Iran, in yet another tirade against individual freedom and liberty to choose own lifestyle, has begun a crackdown on female dress code at public places. I think the hardliners and the moral police of Iran are allergic to feminine freedom and hell bent on unleashing oppression on female folk in guise of Islamic regulations.

Under Sharia Islamic law, imposed since the Khomni led Islamic revolution in 1979, every Iranian woman needs to cover her hair and wear long, baggy clothing to cloak her body outline and guard modesty. Violations of it may lead to lashes, fines or imprisonment. It has converted the once liberal Iranian society into a male dominated and anti-feministic radical system. The stringent laws put severe restrictions on the female folk in Iran. They can’t go outside alone or travel with any other than their blood relations. In the name of improving their behavior, the moral police have put in to prison hundreds of them.
Last January, the administration appointed women police officers pounded several women ignoring austere Islamic dress codes. Now, the police are preparing for a full-scale drive against Iranian women without veiling their hair completely or using overcoats unable to cover feet. The drive in the name of enforcing social norms is only for females, as the Islamic captains of Iran take man as sacrosanct and beyond any sanctions.
The imposition of strict dress code is a severe jolt to the already dilapidated conditions of women in Iran. Not allowed to receive higher education or work according to their choice, they are in a state of virtual siege. Divorce and matrimonial laws are heavily in favor of the men. Women have no voice in national affairs and are without any property rights. Sans any opportunity to showcase achievements like their counterparts allover the world, they are unjustly treated by the men folk as machines to produce children. With a hardliner president at the helm of power and liberal voices are being tortured in the prison cells, women in Iran are easy target for the cleric dominated regime.
