Prominent novelist Orhan Pamuk won Nobel Prize for Literature. Such a great honor would be a great boost up for Turkish literature. The prize includes gold medal along with 10 million Swedish crowns. Orhan Pamuk was born on 7 June 1952 in Istanbul in a prosperous and secular middle class family. His grandfather, uncle and father, all were engineers.

While growing up he thought of becoming a painter but after his graduation he stepped into a field of architecture and got his name enrolled in Istanbul Technical University. After that he pursued for a degree in journalism.

Orhan Pamuk was a creative child from the beginning. During his teen age he experienced many changes in society. He deeply realized that how changes takes place in society. He realized that how traditional ottoman family is colored into a western oriented lifestyle. He just started penning down his experiences and in 1982. His first novel was published with the title named as ‘Cevdet bay ve ogullari’. His another famous novel ‘Benim adim kimizi’ was published in 2002. this novel was regarding the views of artists of east and west.

Presently his prize winning novel is named as ‘KAR’ which means snow. It is a marvelously written story of small town named as Kar which was once the border city between the Ottman and Russian Emperors. It is the story about the protagonist writer who was in exile in Frankfurt travels back to Kar to discover him and his country.
