Gunmen dressed in commando uniform kidnap around 150 scientists and staff of a research institute in Baghdad. The fleet of 20 vehicles early this morning stormed the building belonging to the Higher Education Ministry. All Universities and educational institutions are closed by the government.
According to the police sources this massive kidnapping is co-related with the abduction in July when gunmen seized around 30 people from an Iraqi Olympics Committee. The Interior Ministry has denied any connection to militias blamed by Sunni Arabs and Washington for operating death squads and kidnapping cells.
The abduction of these high profile people indicates that there is someone who is not happy with Iraq’s development process and the coming up regime of professionals. Another reason can be the communal revenge between Shias and Sunnis. It smells communal revenge more because most of them are Sunnis.
