Volatile Gaza region is looming large with its socio-political upheavals. The worst fears of alienated Hamas falling to Al-Qaeda’s help seem true, as the occupier is in urgent need of outside help and help is denied to it by its neighbors and international community in a bid to isolate it.
Although Hamas has always declined Al-Qaeda’s help yet Hamas’ present wriggling situation forces it to consider the offer seriously. In present perspective, it is not cynical but natural for Hamas to fall to Al- Qaeda as the funds are running short to meet day-to-day requirements.
Will Al-Qaeda successfully exploit Hamas’ gains to dismantle the Mideast political balance with Gaza becoming another safe heaven and breeding ground for armed extremists? This is a question, an answer to which, the diplomats around the World are looking for. This is a critical situation and needs serious contemplation.
The need of the hour is to stop Gaza falling to Jihadists and to block the funds and weapons to the Hamas influenced areas. Otherwise - Hamas in Gaza, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Al Qaeda in Iraq and Afghanistan with their Muslim fraternity in Egypt will provide the strong base for the Islamic uprising across the Arab world.
I, hereby, agree with Tarik Al-Homeid, the editor in chief of a Saudi newspaper, who aptly observes that:
The emergence of an Islamist ‘Emirate of Gaza’ is far more critical than that the emergence of the Taliban.
There is a need to protect the suffering humanity while putting the Palestinian Arab cause and false pretensions of superiority at bay.
On the other hand, mere financial help will not do as the funding my fall in the hands of corrupt politicians or Muslim fundamentalists, who can misuse the aid for their nefarious activities. Therefore, it is essential for the peace and stability in Mideast to protect Palestinian Arabs from their crooked fraternity.
