There looks no possibility of peace and stability, at least in recent future, in the Middle East as the gun battle between troops and Islamic militants at the Palestinian camp in Lebanon enters the second consecutive week.
In a fresh encounter yesterday two people were killed when troops yesterday opened fire on a car that sped past a checkpoint outside the international airport in the capital town Beirut. This incident resulted in volatile clashes between Lebanese troops and militants at a Palestinian refugee camp.
In the past one week, four bomb explosions in the capital Beirut have raised concerns about further volatile attacks at the refugee camp. Lethal arms, such as automatic rifles, rockets and artillery have frequently been used by both sides, causing more causalities. The fierce conflict by now has killed about 20 civilians, 30 soldiers and 60 militants after it started on May 20.
The ongoing conflict has added further instability to a nation, which is already struggling to recover from a political chaos between the West-backed government and Hezbollah-supported opposition.
