NATO air attack killed at least 50 civilians in Afghanistan; majority of them were children and women. This disaster took place on Thursday, during the end of the Muslim fasting month.
According to the defense ministry reports, they are investigating the incident and are of the view that this attack may have occurred by mistake, the pilots may not be aware of where to attack and accidentally struck residential areas.
According to the residents, at least 60 people were killed and the number may rise up to 80. Continuous firing of 5 hours had ruined 25 houses.
Such a shameful act was even criticized by the U.N. and speedy and fare investigation is demanded. U.N. committee for Afghanistan had cleared that the safety and welfare of civilians must always come first and any civilian casualties are unacceptable, without exception.
On the other hand, Taliban and other militants have regrouped, which is a matter of concern for Afghanistan as well as U.N. These groups are financially backed by illegal opium trade. Such regrouping of these militant will surly speed down the progress of Afghanistan. If the situation is not controlled on time, days are near when Afghanistan will turn again to Taliban.
On the eve of Eid, Taliban chief Mullah Mohammad Omar confirmed that the number of suicide bombers will increase, such announcements openly declare trouble for NATO. To stop the Afghanistan’s cooperation with Taliban, the U.N. should provide Afghani youths some jobs so that there minds can be diverted from opium cultivation and suicide bombing. Instead of military expenses U.N. should try to set up a proper infrastructure of education, so that the Afghani youths may not turn to Taliban.
