The issue of forming a coalition government in Palestine seems end with a positive note. Both Fatah and Hamas are agreeing on a candidate for prime minister of their emerging coalition government in Palestine. U.S.-educated professor Mohammed Shabir’s name was announced by Moussa Abu Marzouk, a top official in Hamas’ exiled leadership; Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas of Fatah also supports the nomination. Such progressive steps indicate that there can be a stability and peace in Gaza strip.
This decision will also benefit Palestine in getting the foreign aid which was stopped after the formation of Hamas government in March. Shbair, 60, was born in Khan Yunis and is well-respected in Gaza, but his views on Israel are largely unknown. His wife is deputy to the women’s affairs minister in the current Hamas-led government. If chosen as the head of a new government, Shbair’s views on Israel would be closely watched. He has never voiced his positions on Israel in public, but he is described by colleagues as realistic. Shbair would lead a government of experts - acceptable to the major political parties but independent of them - that Abbas hopes will satisfy the international demands for moderation.
It’s high time for Palestinian to renounce violence and accept previous peace deals and recognize Israel’s right too. Palestinian leaders are doing no good for Palestinian people by refusing to recognize Israel. Until date, they’ve just prolonged the suffering of their own people and have fueled violence and instability in the region, ultimately making it more and more difficult for an Israeli leader to make concessions to the Palestinians.
Palestinian negotiators said Monday that they expect an agreement within a week and the deal will be signed in Egypt, which has good relations with Israel and the United States and has played a key mediating role throughout the negotiations.
