Israel would consider taking military action in case the international community does not act to curb the emerging nuclear threat in the Gulf. It is absolutely intolerable for Israel to accept the threat of a nuclear Iran. With the ongoing negotiation process, the position is clear that if there is a compromise, it will cut Iran short of crossing the technological threshold that would lead them into nuclear capabilities and Israel is in favor of any such compromise. However, I don’t believe that Iran will accept such compromise unless they have a very good reason to fear the consequences of not reaching it. In other words - Iran must start to fear.

There is no easy answer to the question of ongoing Iranian nuclearization. All options are unappealing, and all will have very substantial costs. For the moment, diplomacy still seems to be the preferred path to crisis remediation. Recognizing the need for protection against ‘present danger’ and threatening behavior, that is imminent, indicates that self-defense is permitted not only after an attack has already been suffered, but also in advance, ‘where the deed may be anticipated, it will be lawful to kill him who is preparing to kill’.

Israel is the United States’ closest ally in the Middle East, like it or not. If Israel gets involved in a shooting war with one of its neighbors, there will be intense pressure on the U.S. to get involved too. Israel knows this and may feel that’s a path it needs to take, because the Israeli government feels extremely threatened by the prospect of a nuclear Iran
