Peace talks between Israel and Palestine is like butter extracted in the evening that melts away with the sunrise. Will ongoing Mideast peace talks provide some tangible results thus leading to a two state solution while ending illegal Israeli possession of Palestinian land?
If land swap for peace is an offer, then will Israel deliver to it? Well, there are rare chances because as of now, the most generous Israeli offer in ‘Camp David‘ peace talks includes the returning of 75% Palestinian land in the West Bank.
However, the peace possibility between the two has already been reversed or rather made complicated after Hamas took over Gaza recently. With this changed situation, I wonder, how ‘Two state Solution’ will now be an effective one. Especially when US and Israel are discarding Hams in Gaza.
Additionally, the conflict is insoluble while both sides foiling every opportunity to be at peace with each other. Israel confiscates in West Bank and Gaza while at the same time not ready to release the Palestinian land is deadening the peace process. Palestinian militant groups, on the other side, want to put Israel off the map (for a sane mind), It’s not only amoral thought but impractical as well.
Nevertheless, before peace talks the question remains are they serious about solving the crises and particularly US who gives moral and arms support to Israel. Will US risk loosing arms market in Mideast? Well, one hardly believes.
So, these talks, like many others, are only a few movements of respites without anything concrete. Considering the past and keeping in mind Israel-US intransigence, any fruitful solution is a distant dream. Reason is simple Hamas is not included in the peace talks. Even if any peace agreement whatsoever is reached between Israel and West Bank, it’ll be worthless until both Palestinian factions (Hamas and Fatah) agree to it.
