The dance of insanity continues to display its horrendous face in killing countless innocents in the present Israel-Hezbollah conflict.

If we consider Hezbollah a rebellious group or even a terrorist group as alleged by many, Israel is an established nation however, the prefix term ‘responsible’ before nation is questionable.

As a better fact, both the involved parties are equally responsible for this horrific game.

Being a nation and being more powerful backed by ‘the most powerful’ responsibility of crime more falls on Israel. Since it is superior, it is able to kill more people than Hezbollah.

Since the civilians are the main target of the conflict so far, International Humanitarian Law must be questioned at this point of time.

Article 3 Common to the Geneva Conventions of 1949, to which Israel is a party, sets forth minimum standards for all parties to a conflict between a state party such as Israel and a non-state party such as Hezbollah.

However, Israel has carefully and repeatedly expressed at many instances that it is responding to the hostile actions of the sovereign state Lebanon not Hezbollah. Further, it attempted to rope in the governments of Iran and Syria into the matter, just to establish the conflict is between states not between a state and a non-state party.

The two most important and essential doctrine of Humanitarian law are ‘civilian immunity’ and ‘the principle of distinction’. These two tenets clearly speaks that during a war civil casualty should not take place and the involved parties must have the ability to distinguish.

It is strictly forbidden to carry out any attack on civilians or civilian installations that has been openly flouted that too incessantly, as it is evidently clear. Likewise, the area of bombardment should always be undertaken only with the tenets of ‘the principle of distinction’.

There are endless activities are on in the present conflict that make mockery of International Humanitarian Law and the world is nothing but full of silent spectators. There should no law of this kind in a barbaric land where there is no one able to maintain this law. On the part of international community, it’s a disgrace they are bringing ton the law for a noble cause and to protect innocents.
