How would it be if you had to comb your hair like Bush or for that matter Ahmadinejad and while you love to see yourself some one like Beckham or someone in the Hollywood. Sure, it would be pathetic but in Iran you have to live the pathetic or else you’re a bad Hijabi and of course bad Hijabi can be hanged publicly. If you are born in Iran and want to have a Beckham like hair style, eyelashes trimmed sharp and have a penchant for tattooing, beware! Iranian authorities are cracking down on un-Islamic behaviors and you can be fined or prisoned for that, because this is Iran where barber shops are closed or threatened to be closed, if they continue with their western style hair cuts. Fashion is something that one likes and feels comfortable in; however, it’s against religion in Iran. And when it comes to the dress code women are the worst suffers. Islam states that Muslim woman should stay at home and should go outside veiled. According to the law, a woman who doesn’t cover her hair and body in public places can be fined or imprisoned up to two months. And the same can be dome if women even argue with authorities for this. Is it western hair cut or being fashionable means that you don’t have faith in religion? Or wearing the dress that chauvinists dictate is the proof of being religious? Therefore people – rather than religion – should decide what kind of life style they want and which dress they feel comfortable in. Bigotry and dogmatism should end in the present time fact supported scientific era, as religion is the harbinger of peace and should lead its folks to end goal (salvation) and force or terror should find no place therein. However, it’s is a far cry and needs to go too long as 85% people in Iran believe that dress code should be adopted, but this is confined to the common masses and high class people go on with their Western style. There is growing revolt against these bondages and the thought that clothing is not something you can impose from outside; it is something you should accept willingly and instinctively is strengthening.
