The Hezbollah and Hamas cards seem to be clicking for Iran. As a matter of fact, Iran was waiting for the time when taking advantage of the situation it can play it hostile card and challenge the incentive package offered to it.
Further, as it was inevitable, Israel’s destructive instinct rose to a new height when it bombed incessantly Qana killing dozens of innocents.
The killings at Qana quickly came under condemnation from every quarters of the globe, and perhaps that was the moment Iran was waiting to not only condemn Israeli action but to display its uncompromising mood over the nuclear issue pending with the Security Council.
In the wake of Lebanon crisis, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lost no time to play its card, which it has kept since the start of Lebanon crisis.
If reports are to be believed, Iran since long has been patronizing Hamas and Hezbollah groups and now Iran is reaping the benefit as it has strategically used both the groups to bail out Iran from the nuclear row with the U.S. and allies.
According to some reports, Iran spends $200 million a year on funding for Islamist cause. It has also been reported that it provides Hezbollah $100 million annually.
Strategically, Hezbollah is an asset of Iran and specifically the only instrument with which it can validate its arguments against Israel.
Apparently, there will no sign of presence of Iran felt in the Israel-Hezbollah conflict if the immediate reasons are taken prima facie. However, if the entire scenario of Middle East region is taken into account there might be possibility of Iran’s crucial hand in triggering off the conflict.
In the meanwhile, Iran’s influence is increasingly reckoning in the middle east with the rise of Shiite crescent in the region for what it was putting efforts and pouring money since a long time. This time around, it now seems to be paying for Iran.
However, Iran will not be amused seeing Taliban rising in Afghanistan as it can alter the power equation in the region.
Iran indeed needs U.S. but not on its own frontier but in Afghanistan.
Moreover, at the present crisis this is yet to be seen that to what extent Hezbollah can be effective to bail out Iran from the nuclear row.
