The clash for power continues in the Gaza Strip after the two sides had broken the sixth truce signed between them in the past few weeks. Twenty-seven people have been killed in the past four days and more than 50 kidnapped. The violence erupted soon after ‘Abbas called for early elections. Since the Palestinian Authority’s last elections one year ago, Hamas has dominated the parliament and has formed the Palestinian government for the first time.
Appraising the absorption of the situation and to put off the ferocious internal hostility over ideology and control over State, Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah, invited the leaders of both the Palestinian factions a week ago for persistent talks in Mecca.

Finally, the leaders of Hamas and Fatah will meet Tuesday in Mecca for emergency talks. Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud ‘Abbas will head the Fatah delegation. ‘Abbas will meet with Hamas’ top leaders - Prime Minister Isma’il Haniyya and Hamas’ Political Bureau chief Khalid Mash’al - in an attempt to stop the internal fighting between the two movements, which until now has claimed the lives of more than 30 people.
However, will it bring any good to the Palestinian people is still doubted, given the towering tensions. Anyway, we should wait and see how Hamas and Fatah talk and behave in context with the King Abdullah’s invitation. I guess its time for both the parties to get over their January surprise.
