Well, a sensational development in the Mideast. Is it? Yes, you read it right. There opens a new window for the Palestinians who remain divided after Hamas’ violent takeover of Gaza - a very move that not only divided Hamas and Fatah ideologically but geographically as well.

Since then, both factions are running parallel governments in Gaza and West Bank. This did nothing good but made things difficult for not only people but for Palestine as a whole.

However, sensation that I talked about in my initial lines is Hamas now wants reconciliation with Abbas led West Bank. Hamas also hinted to relinquish Gaza. You will surely be Surprised with the drastic change in Hamas’ outlook, so is everyone, but it was expected - sooner or later.

Is it Western sanctions, Israeli blockade, and isolation from the rest of the world that forced Hamas to buckle down? Surely, however there is another aspect as well. There is, indeed.

Abbas led West Bank hinted to yield parts of the West Bank and Jerusalem to Israel, if compensated with an equal amount of Israeli territory. This is really a worrisome factor. May be Hamas realized that West and Israel are again making a deceitful quid pro quo (in return of their financial aid and support) which will lead to the loss of Palestinian land to Israel.

On the other hand, Abbas is not anything more than a fool while putting conditions on Hamas for the talks. And the irony becomes even graver when conditions favor West and Israel more than they do Palestine.

Therefore, this is a time for Hamas and Fatah to realize that ‘united we stand divided we fall’. Hamas realized it and now its Fatah’s turn. For more peace and stability of the Mideast in general and Palestine in particular, it’s necessary for both factions to sought out their differences first. No deal with Israel or for that matter any effort to stick to that whatsoever will be fruitful until the factions will remain aloof.
