The trouble torn Iraq continues to bear the brunt of the civilian strife and sectarian violence, as another blast rips apart Baghdad. Even the holy month of Ramadan has not provided respite to the violence-marred country.
Six car bomb blasts killed 30 and wounded several others in Baghdad on Wednesday. As preparation for Ramadan are underway in Iraq, the hopes of violence budging have been smashed badly by the miscreants ready to tear apart the country. Though, the number of incidents of violence this year as compared to the previous one has shown a decline, yet the continuing violence continues to split blood in the most vulnerable parts of the country.
The Al Qaeda has successfully aired the sentiments of violence in the Shia-Sunni sectarian conflict, thereby making the country even more susceptible to violence and bloodshed. The target of the attacks has been the civilians, the NATO troops and their allies in Iraq. The attacks have also spectacularly targeted the reconciliation gathering of Sunni and Shiite tribal leaders in order to reap the doubts of conflict in the minds of the two sects and create an atmosphere in which both would fight each other out.
The month of Ramadan is particularly sacred for the Muslim community throughout the world and the terrorists aiming such an occasion to stimulate conflict only adds fuel to the fire. The present scenario in Iraq needs to be seriously screwed and the institutions funding terror in the country through man, material and wealth be unzipped.
First it was Saddam’s hostile regime that vanished sleep from the eyes of the Iraqis, but even after his death, the legacy of the ‘man’ continue in the form of daily incidents of violence. Al Qaeda’s passive participation has marginalized all kinds of relief efforts in the country. Iraq is on the verge of a massive breakdown-socially, politically and economically.
