
Two powerful car bombs killed at least 63 people and injured more than 120 people in a Shia district of Baghdad. The blasts occurred in a market in the city’s New Baghdad area. On the other hand, one person died in another blast that happened in Sadr City.
On Wednesday, a joint US-Iraqi security offensive was launched and the bomb explosions are being said as retaliation of the military offenses.

After some time of the twin blast, another vehicles with explosives rammed a police checkpoint in Sadr City. One person killed and 10 injured in this incident.

On Saturday, the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice had visited Baghdad without any prior notice. She had said that the security operation had got off to a good start.
As of Sunday, at least 3,137 members of the U.S. military have died since the beginning of the Iraq war in March 2003, according to an Associated Press count. The figure includes seven military civilians. At least 2,514 died as a result of hostile action, according to the military’s numbers.
